Posted by Stef Cowie

Here are 10 fascinating facts about printing and the industry. We have delved into the past to find some intriguing factors!

#1 Invention

The invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1439 is often regarded as the beginning of mass communication. He developed a method for producing movable type in large quantities, integrating it with oil-based ink and a wooden press that resembled the screw presses used in agriculture at the time.

One of the most famous figures linked to screen printing is artist Andy Warhol. He popularised this technique through his iconic celebrity prints, such as those of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis, elevating screen-printing to a respected status within the fine art world.
